A cabin with real history.
Built by the Izaak Walton League in 1931, the cabin and Hillcrest Park are a popular gathering place for the Fullerton community and its guests.
History in Hillcrest Park
The log cabin at Hillcrest Park was originally built from discarded wooden telegraph poles by the local Fullerton chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, an international conservation organization. The cabin was donated to the City of Fullerton and is under the management of the city's Parks and Recreation Department.
For decades, it has served as the chapter's clubhouse and doubles as the meeting hall for the boys of Scouting America Troop 292, the longest continuously running scout troop in Fullerton.
Tragically, a fire destroyed the original structure on Christmas Eve of 1990. Through community efforts, the cabin was rebuilt in the mid-1990s, carefully matching its rustic timber character and south-facing orientation to the cabin lost.
Today, Hillcrest Park, including the Izaak Walton League Cabin, is a designated Local Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, a quiet reminder of Fullerton's Depression-era works and community development.

The Space
Rich with ample natural lighting and the warmth of the wood construction, the cabin is a warm and inviting space for many types of gatherings.
Immediately in front of the cabin is the large front porch and the south lawn, which has additional concrete picnic tables for public use. Just behind the cabin are Fullerton's memorial honoring those who gave their lives during World War II, as well as a large bowl area for recreation.
Other nearby park features, such as the historic fountain at the Great Lawn and the Hillcrest Stairs network, are a short walk from the cabin within the park grounds.
